Be Thankful!
Marilyn Appleby
This Sunday, we are looking at a passage from Numbers 21 (4-9). It describes how the Israelites were complaining about their situation: ‘No bread, no water, only this miserable food!’
What short memories they had! During their wandering in the desert God had come to their
rescue and had provided for them, time and time again, not to mention the fact that thy had been freed from slavery in the first place! Their complaints led to an astounding outcome (verse 6) because they had complained and sinned against God.
Generally we are a nation of complainers aren’t we? The weather, our politicians, the crime rate, the neighbours, drivers, our work – even the Church does not escape complaints!
Of course, life isn’t a bed of roses, but maybe it’s beneficial sometimes for us to weigh up the good things in our lives against the bad. I’m pretty certain we have far more to be thankful and grateful for than not! When we consider the situation in some countries we may then realise how
fortunate we are and far from warranting complaints!
Give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
