Mothering Sunday

white daffodilThis Mothering Sunday I would like to suggest we pray for the hundreds of mothers who have lost children in recent conflicts and wars, and also children who are now motherless because of those conflicts.

We need only look into the empty eyes of those who grieve to realise the pain and heartache that has been, and is being, caused, particularly in the Middle East, Ukraine and Russia, and so many more fragile areas throughout the world.

Heavenly Father,
Today, on this Mothering Sunday, we pray for the countless numbers of children who have lost their mothers (and fathers), and for parents who have lost precious children in wars and conflicts, many of them having witnessed terrible injuries and then deaths and now suffering from the trauma those things have caused.

Merciful Father, we pray that those who have suffered so much may be comforted, that they will experience compassion and hope. We pray that hatred and conflict may be replaced with peace, justice and the love of Jesus.

Amen.

Rescue the weak and the needy;
deliver them from the hand of the wicked.
